"One of my personal motivations to work with this project was my concerns regarding my own views regarding religion - Islam being one - and I wanted to dig deep into the concept of Islamophobia and so far I have learned a lot which will support me when working against xenophobia in general and Islamophobia in particular."
- Karin Wouda, Project manager Escape the Phobia
Escape the phobia aims to reduce the prevalence of xenophobia and intolerance among young people aged 15-20 years old in the Örebro region and to provide teachers and youth leaders with new innovative tools to do this.
We have developed and tested three different methods to achieve the goal of reducing the incidence of xenophobia and intolerance among young people aged 15-20
which are spreadable.
We have spread the methods to increase knowledge about Islamophobia, Afrophobia, and Homophobia to at least 300 people aged 15-20 in the Örebro region through various activities and at least 300 people aged 15-20 online.
At least 75% of people feel that the methods have reduced their attitudes towards xenophobia and intolerance
The methods have been disseminated to at least 1000 teachers and youth leaders in Sweden.
